Since the release of Rajasthan in Dub back in 2016 I dream to record music from different cultures around the world and share it both as folk music and electronic remixes.

Last year this dream became reality.

"Gig Sessions/Baithak in the farm" (Oct 17-21, 2022) was the second edition of Kamakhya Records private, by donation only, and not-for-profit music and art retreat.
Artists on invitation travel to Assam in Northeast India, stay together, share knowledge and tips, collaborate, and make free-flowing music and art together on the fly, where the NOW is the inspiration.
I had the honor to be invited and record nepali folk music thanks to Gandharva brothers.

Sharan Gandharva and Ramesh Gandharva from Kachankawal in the Jhapa district of Nepal travel miles on foot, taking public transport only to commute to the tourists' beloved Darjeeling town. Otherwise farmers from the fertile plains of Nepal, these talented folk musicians perform well-loved Nepali songs with their treasured companion, the beautiful Nepali Sarangi. Made of sturdy jackfruit wood, and polished with silk-smooth pine resin, this instrument bears the symbols and impressions of ancient string instruments that evolved over thousands of years across the Silk Route. Once the symbol of their idiosyncratic cultural and musical traditions, this music is now endangered and lost in the world of modern Nepali music. With stories involving simple village life, silk trades, and innocent love, their music takes one on a soulful journey. Breaking away from the regular, they come with music taught to them by their forefathers. Never burdened with existential struggle, they worship music as a way of life.

Kamakhya Records is a fairly new label from Northeast India. The label is not for profit and all monies make from their Bandcamp sales go to the Lynti Khasi School of Umsawwar – a small remote village of farmers & shepherds located in the state of Meghalaya, Northeast India- to help better its infrastructure and much more including funding the higher studies of the pass-outs of Lynti Khasi School.
The Lynti Khasi School, with its bare basic facilities, is trying really hard not only to educate the children of Umsawwar but to also strike a balance between education & the centuries-old traditional livelihood of the community where the children help their parents in the daily chores of rearing and farming.
